Catering and school meals
Lantern Primary and Nursery ARE
Proud to be partnered with Caterlink for the provision of school meals
We are thrilled to have Telford and Wrekin catering onboard to supply our children with delicious and nutritious meals which our pupils are excited to eat. We have a rotating menu on a 3-week cycle which gives our children both a wide choice and enjoyment at lunch, each day there are at least two main options and a wide sandwich option – with ever growing choose for all palette and dietary needs. Children can choose their lunch option in the morning, so they are excited for lunchtime.
Lunch boxes
While we understand the convenience of home-packed lunches, we encourage pupils in reception, year 1, and year 2 to enjoy our hot school meals – alongside sandwiches available daily in the canteen and an expanded menu offering additional snacks and dietary support. If you still wish to bring home-packed lunch, we urge parents/carers to ensure that it is healthy and meets the recommendations for pupil’s diets, fizzy drinks and sweets are not allowed.
Free meals
Although children in reception, year 1 and year 2 are entitled to universal infant free school meals, we encourage all of our parents to complete the paperwork from the local authority for free school meal entitlement. Whether your free school meal application is or isn’t accepted, your child can have a daily meal at no cost to you while on years 1 and 2.
As a pupil enters year 3, parents/carers must apply, if eligible, for free meals through the local authority. We send out the free school meal application form to our year 2 children at the end of the summer term, so this provision is in place ready for the start of year 3, if you are entitled. Find our more information about free meals and apply online on the local authority website – click here or pop into the academy where a member of the team will be happy to support you.
Paying for school meals
If you have to pay for your child’s school meal when you child moves into year 3 and above, dinners are priced at £2.60 per day. To book a meal for your child you can do it through Miss Jones who is on the top playground every morning. You can pay cash or online through the school meal portal, details for this will be sent to parents with a unique code for your child.
