Remote learning
If the academy is closed unexpectedly, all class teachers will set manageable work for the day via Class Dojo and children and staff will have access to Microsoft Teams to support learning and deliver lessons.
Supporting Families with Remote Learning
We understand that remote learning can be challenging for families. To make the experience as smooth as possible, we offer the following support:
- Guides and Tutorials:
Step-by-step guides and video tutorials on how to use Class Dojo and Microsoft Teams will be provided for parents and carers, ensuring you feel confident navigating the platforms and supporting your child’s learning at home. - Live Sessions via Microsoft Teams
In addition to the learning materials shared on Class Dojo, our staff will deliver live sessions via Microsoft Teams to provide real-time instruction and interaction with pupils. These live sessions are an essential part of our remote learning provision, helping to maintain engagement and connection between teachers and pupils.
- Types of Live Sessions:
- Whole Class Lessons: Teachers will conduct live lessons in key subjects, such as English, Maths, and Science, to introduce new concepts and reinforce learning.
- Small Group Sessions: For focused support, teachers may arrange smaller group lessons or intervention sessions for pupils who need additional help or who are working on specific targets.
- One-to-One Support: For pupils with specific learning needs or those requiring extra attention, one-to-one sessions may be scheduled to ensure personalised guidance.
- Joining Microsoft Teams Sessions:
Pupils will be provided with a secure login for Microsoft Teams, and session links will be shared via Class Dojo. A clear schedule will be provided, outlining the times of live sessions throughout the week. To join:
- Click on the link provided through Class Dojo or Teams calendar.
- Follow the instructions to join the session. Your child can join via a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
- Ensure that your child has their microphone muted at the start of the session and turns it on only when asked by the teacher.
- Expectations for Live Sessions:
We expect pupils to attend live sessions as they would in a physical classroom. To make these sessions as effective as possible:- Pupils should be ready to join the session on time, dressed appropriately, and have any necessary materials ready (e.g., notebooks, pencils).
- We ask that pupils participate fully by listening, asking questions, and completing any tasks set during the session.
- Teachers will set clear ground rules for behaviour and interaction during live sessions to ensure a respectful and focused learning environment.
- Recording Sessions:
To support pupils who may not be able to attend the live session, or for those who need to revisit the material, some sessions will be recorded and made available through Class Dojo. Parents will be informed in advance if a session is being recorded.
- Technology Support:
If your child does not have access to a suitable device (laptop, tablet, or smartphone), please contact the school. We have a limited number of devices available for loan to ensure that no child is left without the tools they need to succeed.
We understand that accessing live sessions may present challenges for some families. If you encounter any technical difficulties with Microsoft Teams, our school’s IT support team is available to assist. Please contact the school if you experience issues with logging in, connectivity, or accessing resources.
Staying Connected and Informed:
- We understand the importance of maintaining clear and open communication during periods of remote learning. Through Class Dojo, we will:
- Provide regular updates from teachers and the school leadership team
- Share important information about upcoming events, changes to remote learning arrangements, and additional resources
- Celebrate pupils’ progress and achievements through virtual assemblies and posts on Class Dojo
- Parents and carers are encouraged to regularly check Class Dojo for announcements, messages from teachers, and new learning materials. The platform’s messaging feature also allows families to reach out directly to teachers with any questions or concerns.
