EDUCATION

Homework

Homework is issued to children in order to get them into good habits for the next stage of their education. The homework we provide is a mixture of activities that the children can complete independently or with support from someone at home.

Continuously learning, outside the classroom.

We place high importance on reading and expect children to read daily and this to be acknowledged by a parent or carer. Children can also use the communication log to jot notes or comments about what they have read. Staff may record comments back enabling a collaborative approach to this aspect of homework.

Weekly spellings are set for children, in years 1 to 6, to learn which they can practice in their communication log or using the online platform Spelling Frame. The children are tested on these spellings a week after they are given allowing plenty of time to secure this understanding.

Teachers may also send an activity based around maths or offer a homework project related to the topic being studied in school.

Homework is checked by adults in school as it is an expectation that every child completes it. If children don’t hand in their homework opportunities are provided during the school day for children  to do it in school.

Additional online platforms are available for children to access at home. Where children use these regularly, they are recognised in class or celebration assemblies. The platforms children have logins to include Maths Frame, TTRockstars, Lexia and Maths Whizz. Year 6 children, preparing for their Statutory Assessment Tests can also use SATs Bootcamp to support them in the lead up to their end of key stage tests.
